INTERACTIVE MUSIC WORKSHOP with MICROSOFT NYC

Technology is an accelerator, but alone it does not enable change, nor can it build 21st century skills in students of any age. It is crucial that the way music making is taught today also evolves, in order to stay relevant with the changing definition of music.

In partnership with the Microsoft flagship store in New York City and Steinway & Sons, the aim of the workshop was to introduce an unconventional music performance experience using technology, where audience would learn about how music is made and transcribed through technology. StaffPad, a groundbreaking music notation application built exclusively for Microsoft's Surface, was used to simultaneously display the music notation with performance, allowing the audience to engage in a unique, interactive music making process both on an audial and visual level.
